Early Childhood & Toddler Program

Nurturing curiosity and independence through a play-based Montessori approach. We provide a prepared environment tailored to the unique developmental needs of toddlers, fostering socio-emotional growth and a natural, lifelong love for learning.

Seedlings
(12–18 Months)

The Seedlings classroom provides a nurturing space for our youngest learners to begin their journey of independence. Our program focuses on sensory discovery and foundational skill building, tailored specifically for the developmental milestones of children aged 12 to 18 months. In this safe and inviting environment, toddlers are encouraged to explore, discover, and build a sense of wonder through purposeful, play-based interaction.

  • Practical Life & Independence – Holding bottle/cup, self-feeding, hand washing, participating in diapering routines

  • Movement & Coordination – Crawling, cruising, early walking, climbing, carrying objects

  • Sensorial Exploration – Texture boards, object permanence, sound cylinders, visual tracking

  • Language Development – Naming objects, songs, finger plays, simple books, one-on-one conversations

  • Social & Emotional Development – Building trust, learning turn-taking, expressing needs, secure routines

Sprouts
(18–24 Months)

Emphasizing the magical window of language development, motor skill refinement, and early social interaction. Our Sprouts program provides a structured yet nurturing space for toddlers to explore their world with confidence.

  • Practical Life & Independence – Self-feeding with spoon/fork, drinking from open cup, hand washing, beginning dressing, toilet awareness

  • Movement & Coordination – Walking, running, climbing, ball play, dancing, balance activities

  • Sensorial Exploration – Texture boards, sensory bins, shape sorters, color matching, sound exploration

  • Language Development – Two-word phrases, songs, picture cards, story time, bilingual exposure (Spanish/English)

  • Social & Emotional Development – Parallel play, turn-taking, identifying emotions, grace and courtesy

Blossoms
(2–3 Years)

In our Blossoms program, children aged 2 to 3 years are encouraged to embrace their growing independence. This stage focuses on creative expression, independent exploration, and the foundational skills of collaborative group activities. Through sensory play and structured social interactions, toddlers build the confidence they need to thrive both individually and as part of a community.

Roots
(3–5 Years)

The Roots program is dedicated to preschoolers aged 3 to 5, focusing on critical thinking, academic readiness, and holistic social-emotional growth. In our nurturing Montessori environment, children engage with advanced materials that prepare them for future academic success while fostering self-confidence, independence, and a genuine love for learning through discovery and mastery.

  • Practical Life – Care of self (dressing, hygiene, food prep), care of environment (cleaning, plant/animal care), control of movement, grace and courtesy

  • Sensorial – Visual discrimination (pink tower, brown stair, color tablets), tactile exploration, auditory development (sound cylinders, bells), geometric shapes

  • Mathematics – Number recognition (number rods, spindle boxes), decimal system (golden beads, stamp game), operations, linear counting, fractions introduction

  • Language – Oral development, phonemic awareness (sandpaper letters, moveable alphabet), writing skills (metal insets), reading development, grammar introduction

  • Cultural Studies – Geography (maps, landforms, continents), science (botany, zoology, experiments), art and music

10:00 AM is the final time to enter school.

Aftercare

We partner with Belisama Dance, a local business owned by one of our Early Childhood educators. Please contact Belisama Dance directly for more information about their aftercare program. Santa Fe Montessori Childcare Program families receive first priority for aftercare enrollment, which is a wonderful perk for our community.
